The documentary “La historia de todas nosotras” (The story of all of us) tells the story of three women from El Salvador whose fundamental rights were breached as they were accused of the crime of abortion and finally sent to prison for aggravated murder, when they had lost their babies giving birth outside the hospital.

In 1998, El Salvador reformed its Penal Code to make abortion illegal with prison sentences of 2 to 8 years. However, in the supposed cases of voluntarily interrupting a pregnancy, women are sentenced for aggravated murder, punished with stretches of between 30 and 40 years in prison.

This is the story of Elsi, Cinthia and Mariana. But it could happen to many others and even us.
